Dealing With Urinary Incontinence

If you are battling urinary incontinence, it is nothing to be ashamed of. Sure, you are probably thinking that years ago wetting your bed was the biggest disaster in the world. If you had siblings, the word was bound to get out. If it happened at a friend’s house during a sleepover, word was bound to get out. Once you were old enough, your parents, had the word not already been out, were bound to reminisce about your night time problem.

We assure you though, urinary incontinence, while not as common as it was when you were a kid, can still become an issue that affects a wide range of people. So, again, there is nothing to be ashamed of.

However, before we go anymore into what could be causing your night time issue, just in case you have not picked up on it, let’s review what incontinence means.

Very simply, it is the inability to control your bodily fluids, such as urinating. Yet, unlike when you are a kid, stopping liquids after six in the evening will not always be the best way to end your dilemma.

Of course, that does not mean you are in any without options. That will never be the case. In short, there are two options.

The first option, probably not surprising to anyone, is medical treatments. Yes, you heard us, just like anything else, we have created a pill to help remedy such an issue. Now, while something such a pill or a liquid dosage may seem simple enough, you must always remember that it is not guaranteed. There just are not guarantees that can be made. As well, it also does not mean that the medication you begin will not come with other side effects. Perhaps even side effects you were not anticipating or that can be more impacting than your instance of urinary incontinence. Read the rest of this entry »

Gestational Diabetes – Diet Plans, Menus and Recipes

Gestational diabetes also known as Gestational Diet Mellitus (GDM) is a condition in which a woman who normally doesn’t have sugar, gets diabetic during her pregnancy. This diabetic condition now occurs widely throughout the world, 5% of all pregnant women have gestational diabetes, and the mother has nothing to worry about her delivery or her child as long as she keeps the sugar levels under control. The sugar levels should be closely monitored to avoid complications during the delivery period.

A hormone called insulin is responsible for getting the glucose from the blood into the cells of your body. If you are diabetic, then your body is not producing as much insulin as is required, or your cells are not using it the way it should be used.

If the gestational diabetes is in the mild stage then it can be controlled purely through proper diet. In some cases where the diabetes is in a more progressed state you may have to take insulin to bring your blood sugar levels under control. Your physician will know what to do, and when a diet needs to be followed, he will draft out the diet taking into account your present eating habits making sure that you get all the necessary vitamins and nutrients.

General Guidelines:

Eat a variety of foods and make sure that most of your calorie content comes from carbohydrates and foods that are rich in fiber.
It is recommended by the American Diabetes Association to eat three small to moderate sized meals per day and two to four snacks every day. It is also advisable to have a bedtime snack just before you get into bed.
Never skip meal. Your blood sugar level will be consistent if your meals and calories are distributed evenly throughout the day.
Meals should be taken around the same time every day.
Do not wait till you are burning with hunger to start eating. When you do eat like this, your blood sugar levels will rocket up.
Restrict your intake of foods and juices that are rich in simple sugar like sodas, colas and fruit juices. These foods will quickly raise your sugar levels so limit their intake or if possible avoid them altogether. Instead of drinking fruit juices, you can eat fresh fruits which are also rich in fiber. Also, milk contains lactose which is a form of sugar. So if you drink more than two glasses of milk a day you may need to think for another source of calcium and avoid drinking more that two glasses of milk a day.
Get some exercise. It need not be something that is strenuous and physically exerting. A simple walk after your meals has been shown to work wonders on gestational diabetes.
Drink lots of water to maintain the body’s water levels.
Continuously monitor your body’s blood sugar levels and keep a record of them. Read the rest of this entry »

Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care Is an Answer for Fibromyalgia Sufferers

Time and again, Chiropractic has been shown to help with fibromyalgia. Simply google “fibromyalgia and chiropractic care” and you’ll see for yourself. It is not a specific cure or treatment of fibromyalgia, but removing the interference to the nervous system can result in a number of positive changes.

One thought as to why fibromyalgia patients suffer so much is that they often suffer from another condition known as cervical spinal stenosis, a degenerative condition in which the spinal canal narrows and presses on the spinal cord and meninges. This kind of pressure will undoubtedly block normal transmission of messages between the nervous system and the body, and vice versa. This pressure can affect the part of the nerves that control motor function (muscles) and sensory function (pain).

Considering fibromyalgia is Latin for “muscle fiber pain,” doesn’t it make sense to see if the nerves going to your muscles have the ability to function properly, so you don’t experience “muscle fiber pain?”

When someone has an upper cervical vertebral subluxation (misalignment) for a long period of time and doesn’t ever get that problem corrected, the compensatory changes occurring in the spine will speed up the degeneration process. This will lead to bone spurs, narrowed discs, fused vertebrae, or in the case of fibromyalgia, spinal stenosis and pain.

Often the treatment for spinal stenosis is a very invasive surgery known as a laminectomy, which is removal of the lamina of the vertebra in order to relieve the pressure on the spinal cord. This is the typical allopathic answer to a problem: cover it up or cut it out.

Instead of covering it up with a drug like Xyrem (which happens to be the date-rape drug marketed as a fibromyalgia cure), or cutting it out via a laminectomy, why not naturally restore the spine’s natural juxtaposition? Non-invasive, precise Chiropractic care just makes so much more sense. Read the rest of this entry »
